I have a 3-element SteppIR on a 55' UST crankup/crankover. Works well. I
have a half-sloper attached to the top of the tower. It provides a
reasonable match on 160 and 40. I cannot get a good match on 80 no matter
how I move the sloping wire for that band. I have about 40 radials
attached to the base of the tower. My feedline to the sloper is 130' of
RG213 and it gets out fairly well on 160/80/40. (I can load it on 80 with
a tuner, so I do not worry about the SWR loss on this band.) Of course,
half slopers produce different results for everyone and it is almost
impossible to predict how one will work. It is worth trying, especially if
your coax is not too long and you can operate with a higher SWR, because
setup is so simple. I tried changing the SteppIR element lengths to see if
it had any effect on the half sloper, but I have not observed much effect.
