Just a quick note on the above "commercial' bearings as opposed to Telex
ham thrust bearings. I have been using a super heavy duty Morse bearing
(four bolts on a Rohn 45 flat top section) with a 3 inch Telrex ( not
Telex-HyGain) chrome moly mast for over 20 years. The bearing is a
precision device. If you buy a 2 inch bearing it will be 2 inches in
diameter--no slop to be taken up by set screws. When I cold
galvanize-sprayed my mast, the extra paint prevented the mast from fitting
into the bearing. I had to have the bearing turned out a few thousandths.
