The best rope to use is braid over braid dacron.  There
are many places that sell it, including your local marine shop.

Make sure you buy a continuous length, long enough to go up and
down your entire tower, plus 5-10% for working on the ground.

You can even by the rope on the internet at http://www.qth.com/rope
(I think that's right :-))

The 1/2" diameter is plenty for hauling 55G sections, but the
3/4" may be easier to work with (as long as your pulleys can
handle it).
