Haven't had that problem but hadn't gone to the top of either of the two 
towers in some months.  When I went up one and KO7V went up my other one 
we each found a dead bird at the bottom of each mast (inside it).  They 
apprently went in the top looking for a nest site or shelter for the 
night and couldn't get back out, eventually working their way to the 
bottom.  Guess it makes sense to cap the top of the mast.  I know I've 
seen caps made for pipe -- have seen some on other people's masts -- 
wonder if jamming a tennis ball (or whatever is the right size) in the 
top is an appropriate solution.
