I had two gin poles, one made from R25 & one made from R55. I drilled
out the R25 holes to be all 3/8", and the R55 holes to be all 1/2".
There was no way we were going to have to deal with more wrenches than
necessary on repetitive everyday tasks. That's just dumb.
However my Rohn ham towers and all the others I installed were all
unmodified when we installed them. For permanent towers it's probably
better to leave the hole galvanizing somewhat intact.
It may have been that the original design had the larger bolt being
adequate by itself, and the smaller hole could be used for an alignment
tool, with the last bolt then as a safety.

Guys, I know they use two different size bolts……but dont know why…..do different sizes
change the engineering….or was there a bolt shortage and they could only get smaller ones?

Jamie,
A: Rohn never made R-25 with the same size bolt. All Rohn stacked tubular tower R-35 ( rare Motorola type ) R-45 -R-55 use two diferent size bolts .
Why ??????????

Subject: [TowerTalk] rohn 25 section bolts
Thanks everyone for the help with the tower bolts......now, a question
on why 2 different sizes on bolts for the sections? I think I heard an
answer a long time ago, but cant remember why,......also, did Rohn ever
make 25 with the same size bolts, or if we have tower with the same
size, is it a knockoff?
