I agree with W3JK about the SteppIR. Yes, it has great reviews about the
way it functions, the ability to instantly go 180 degrees, the ability to do
WARC bands and to optimize for all parts of the band. But, it is not a "magic
antenna". Given a 4 element Yagi on a 32 foot boom, it will do about the
same in gain as another well designed antenna...even some old homebrew job.
It
is easy to get caught up in the hype. Remember the hype over quads in the
60s and 70s, the "wonder antenna" KT34XA of the 80s and the Force 12 of the
90s?...all good antennas. but they don't work magic.
