reporting system here on the central and northerly OR coast. Reliable
and *_repairable_* if needed. My Peet system has been in place since
June of 2004. I'm just a few hundred feet off the ocean on an 70 foot
high exposed hill with considerable winter winds. So far I've not
experienced any loss of the TH7DX, the A3WS or 2 M antennas. Most
problems have been with the reed switches in the vane units, but an easy
fix.
In my case I set up to meet (as best I could) the NOAA/NWS
meteorological standards established for their weather sensors vs
monitoring what the conditions were at the top of my tower. I agree
that Davis is also a reliable system and will withstand the coastal
rigors and there are a number installed at private residences along this
part of the coast. At the time the OCRG system was established I
understand Davis's SW was proprietary and not compatible with the
systems as set up for the Peet units. It is now integrateable (is that a
word?) I'm told.
LaCrosse and Oregon Scientific units I've seen have in use down on this
coast last aabout a 1 year at best under these salt air/water conditions
we encounter, just corrode away. Perhaps inland they may fare better.
Monitoring the wx is lots of fun. I also host AIS and ADS-B receiving
stations which feed data back into the host systems. Something to watch
when the bands are dead or near dead.

includes the computer interface, which is extra. While I've heard good
things about Peet, most of the low-cost stuff gets a bad rap for
reliability. I'm on only my second Davis since I think 2002. Ask
people with Lacrosse and Ambient how many years they get out of each new
station.
Do think about height for the wind sensor, and proximity to other
things. I see them mounted on towers, and I'm unclear on how much that
impacts measurments, so I should go read the setup guidelines.
