 Hi Paul,
Hopefully, your email will let you get large attachments as I just sent you the
2017 digital rerelease of The VHF/UHF DX Book so that you no longer have to
worry about the pages falling out of precious reference materials.
I got licensed in 1983 as I was under orders for Germany and needed a ham radio
license to take my CAP radios with me.  I stopped by Ft Sill, OK to get updated
on some systems that we didn't use in my previous assignment and met Claude
Matchette, KD5RQ, who had just returned from an assignment in Germany.  He told
me that I needed to "...take some 2m gear with me because the German's were all
over that stuff ..."  He was right!  I took a Kenwood TR-9130 system over with
me and had a blast as DA2GD.  Hooked up with the Lampertheim Amateur Radio Club
(DL0WW) and really learned how to enjoy VHF.  Coming back to the states from
Germany, I went to Ft Carson, CO an fell under the spell of Lauren Libby (KX0O
then, now W0LD) and Ron Deutsch (NK0P) who really set the hook.
Funny how life works, KD5RQ convinced me to upgrade to Extra to be part of his
VE team when I returned to Ft Sill after retirement.
73's.

 Hi Don,

I have the fourth edition (1983) of the RSGB VHF/UHF Manual which I
bought in the 80s. It was and despite being dated, remains one of my
favorite books. I wish I had all the other editions of it, but sadly
this is the only one I have. It shows some wear from frequent use!

I first got on VHF weak signal (144 MHz) in 1986.
