Well I got lucky and my antenna guy could
get over here today. Job half done I hope.

Now..the rest of the story:

I had used the liquid tape available from Lowes,
the red stuff, also sold in green. While it looked
good it flaked off upon being rubbed and did a great job
of keeping water IN but not so great on keeping water
out. Two connections wet and corroded. While I
can't say that was for sure the problem, it is a good
bet. The antenna was in good shape and the main
cable to the shack is OK.

So...the answer is clear. Stick to Scotchcoat, which
will now cost you $60 bucks for a 15 ounce can. As
if the price isn't bad enough, the stuff does not keep
well, but it won't come off of anything except maybe
Teflon. Lasts 30+ years in the weather!

So...with luck I'll be back cluttering up 222 with my CQ's
by this time tomorrow.
