The 6 Meter Es opening Sunday afternoon between the east coast and midwest
in the VHF Sweepstakes was a
treat, though I ended up missing most of it.
I had gone out to lunch with my wife ~ 2:30 pm(usually a slow time for the
Jan.contest) and got back home around 4 pm. Saw on the Prop. Logger 6M was
open and I
drove back out to the "Cattle Pens" where I was operating single op port.
While putting the two element 6M yagi up at 2300 utc I heard NG4C and KN4SM.
No luck raising them with 10 watts. Once the yagi was up they disappeared,
but
N3DB FM18 had a good signal on 50.180. I worked him at 2325 utc. Thanks Dave
for the contact! Turned out to be my only 6M Es QSO in the contest. While I
was
working N3DB; Steve, K0UO/rover pulled up. He could not hear N3DB at all on
his
whip.
Did you see the spot by NH7RO that he worked W1JJM at 2048 utc? What a
deal!
