I think Gene is refering to the fact that cabrillo logs have only been
accepted for
a short time. Thus there is not a long enough baseline of on-line data to
be able
to determine a trend, using just that data.
That said, I think that a very interesting statistic would be the ratio of
callsign's
reported to logs received, for the period where there 'is' data. Another
statistic
that could be derived would be an estimate of the number of contacts made by
the stations that did 'not' submit logs, by finding how often they appear
in the logs
that 'are' submitted. While it wouldn't be wholy accurate, it would provide
some
estimate of actual activity levels.
From this data, some 'targeting' might be attempted, to try to convince
those that
are actively participating, but not submitting logs, to do so.

It can't be made much easier than using one of the many contest programs that
generate cabrillo logs, and sending an email. With real-time dup checking
in the
contesting software, it's to the point that you can essentially submit your
logs
within minutes of the end of the contest.
