I guess it does depend on where you are and how far you are from other
active stations on any given band.
As I added bands I was on 1296 before I was on 222, but I finally built a
transverter and beam for 222. It is a fun band with some of the
characteristics of 144 and 432 and some characteristics of neither. It
probably cost me about the same amount of money to build transverters and
antennas for 222 and 1296. If you're not going to use a mast-mounted
transverter and amp for 1296, feedline is definitely going to be more
expensive.
