Some of the information is a bit dated but it is a good book. I have the first edition (1991) and second edition (2012). Actually I have two copies of the first edition. Why? Not a clue.

Thanks.  Had not heard of the book but found it through Amazon and ordered it.

"Radio Auroras" by Charlie Newton, G2FKZ published by the RSGB way back in
1991 has a lot of the answers.  IIRC from reading this book many years ago,
visual and radio auroras are not connected, i.e., you may see an aurora but
no RF propagation exists or good RF propagation exists with no visual
aurora.  I still have my copy and will now have to read up on that subject
