I've been screwing with this for awhile, until last night when I found out
I had the emitter and collector reversed on a 2N2222. Having fixed that
little problem, I plugged the cable into a 9 pin COM3, the other end to the
key plug and......NOTHING.
COM3 checked out fine with Writelog since I plugged the rig into it and it
worked fine. So it's not the COM port. I built the circuit using a 9 pin
connector, with pin 4 (DTR) going to a 1K resistor to the base of the
2N2222. Pin 5 (GND) goes to the emitter and to ground. The collector goes
to the tip of the CW key plug.
I did a continuity test on the entire cable. NO breaks, I'm getting
continuity all through the cable. Yet, when I press F2 to send a message,
NOTHING HAPPENS.
Have COM3 set on the Port setup, with PC Generates as the CW Type. Went
into the properties for COM3, it's 8N1 and I changed the baud from 9600 to
1200 (this is a Win2K machine). Nada.
I'm about ready to sit this weekend out. Anybody have any clue at all what
I should check next? Life is too short for this nonsense.
