Thanks Don and Chuck

There was no evidence of any relevant Network lines in the ini file 
contributing to the problem. However, I have since resolved it by deleting 
the NETW title for the Network column in the Exchange Format Setup menu 
dialogue. Although the Network column had no data in it, WriteLog appeared 
to be interpreting the presence of this field as meaning the log should be 
networked.
