I guess "Getting Old" also means "Getting Stupid"! Ron's reply below that
his IC-7600 would change frequency with the IC-7800 driver left me puzzled
as to why I was not so lucky. Late tonight I discovered the answer. I
started setting up WL for the SARTG RTTY New Years Day Contest and since I
hadn't used a RTTY contest module since changing radios I went to Ports and
changed my old IC-756PRO radio to the IC-7800. I checked out split and it
worked, then I tried typing in a new frequency and it worked! At first it
worked sort of funny. The radio VFO would flash the new frequency, then
return to its original one. After one or two more tries it worked and the
new frequency would stick. Have no idea why it did this.

Got to wondering why it wouldn't work last night when I was using the Stew
Perry contest module from last weekend as the test bed, so I quit the SARTG
RTTY module and went back to the Stew Perry CW module. Tried to enter a new
frequency and it wouldn't work! Huh? Went to Ports and found the answer.
I still had the radio set as the old IC-756PRO as this was the radio I used
for that contest. Apparently I forgot to change it over to the IC-7800.
Once I did the frequency change worked again in this module. Now I need to
remember if bringing in an old log to change the radio setting in Ports and
do a Save. Thanks Ron for giving me the heads up to try the IC-7800 driver
again.

Still can't get the PW-1 to recognize band changes so the challenge
continues.

Gary,

I use the IC-7800 driver for my IC-7600. I can type in a frequency and the
radio goes there. It also works when typing in a split frequency.

I just got my new IC-7600 hooked up and running today. As Ron noted below
using the IC-756PRO3 driver and adding the line to the [RIGS] to reset the
hex code to 7A for the 7600 left the split mode unavailable from WL. I
changed to the IC-7800 in the Ports section and modified the [RIGS] section
in the ini file to set the 7800 hex code to 7A. The split function now
works. However, none of the radio drivers I've tried, PRO3, 7700 and 7800,
will allow me to change bands by typing the a new frequency in the Call
field to QSY the radio. Has anyone with a 7600 found a way to do this in
WL? If not I will have to manually change the band by pushing a button!
Oh, the horror! Will the next WL update include a proper driver for the
IC-7600?

I had trouble using the IC-756PRO3 driver for my IC-7600. The splits didn't
function correctly.
I had to use the IC-7800 driver. Now the split functions correctly.

Wayne,

I use WriteLog successfully with the Icom IC-7600. There are two
solutions to your problem:

1. Edit the CIV address of the IC-7600 in the "Others" menu (clear
down near the bottom) in the 7600 to make it look like an IC-756PRO3;

2. Edit the writelog.ini file to change the CIV address there. This
is the option I use. If you do this, find the "[RIGS]" section of
the ini file and add the following line:
    [RIGS]
    Icom IC-756PRO3=0x7A

(0x7A is the default CIV address for the IC-7600. Note that if you are
using either Windows Vista or 7, the writelog.ini file you must edit
is in the "virtual store" under your user name, NOT in the Windows
folder. If you need more info on this, either search the archives or
email me directly.)

After adding the Icom... line to writelog.ini, choose the IC-756PRO3
as your rig in the WriteLog "Ports" menu, set the baud rates in both
the IC-7600 and WriteLog to match (do not use "auto"). I use 19200
baud.

Note that in the "Ports" setup dialog, you can click on the "Help"
button to learn about all the settings. Also, in the search pane at
the left side of the help window, you can double-click the "[RIGS]"
section to learn all about the settings in this section of the ini
file.

Works like a charm!
