I use VSPE and set up a "splitter". I can do this with either a hardware
comport or a virtual pair set up in VSPE.
Here is screen capture of the setup in VSPE that I use for connecting
Writelog, WSJT-X, ACLog etc to an ANAN-100 SDR.

COM6 is the CAT port from the radio. COM16 is what I would usually use
to connect W/L or WSJT-X. But instead, I created COM26. This 'splits'
COM16 to allow up to eight connections at once.
For well behaved programs, this works well. I have seen some programs
not play nice with com ports and take exclusive control which will cause
issues. I can use Writelog and WSJT-X with no problem on a Win7 laptop
and Win10 desktop. Both see/control the ANAN-100 fine.
YMMV so try before you buy.

Thank for documenting all of this! I may try this out after the contest.
I like to keep my everyday logger running 24/7, and then start
WriteLog or WSJT-X as needed. But that requires two COM ports for CAT
(radio frequency) control. I don't know how to solve that with a
single virtual COM port.
