I only use my remote station once in a blue moon. I tried accessing it
again yesterday and was frustrated (again) by connection problems.
Remote: K3 + KPA500 on COM2
Control site: K3 on COM6
Access is via Chrome Remote which seems to work well and easy to use.
If I open WL at the remote (through the Chrome connection), it works well
and controls the remote K3. I can hit the F10 key and it sends something
(verified by watching the remote KPA500 utility). Changing frequency or
band works fine.
When I open WL Control Site, I get access to the rig with the local
(Control) WL. I can set new frequencies in the remote K3 and transmit via F
keys.
However, the local K3 won't connect to the remote K3. I've tried putting
the local into TERM mode both before and after opening WL Control. This has
worked before. Nothing obvious has changed. I'm obviously connected to the
remote WL software.
Question: Could this problem be a lack of port forwarding in the remote
router? Xfinity changed the way you do that and now I can't access it. I
suspect those ports are still forwarded but not sure and at least for now I
can't check. Since WL Control connects just fine with the remote WL and I
can control the rig there it seems port forwarding is working .. but I
don't know enough about that to know if it would cause the K3 to fail to
connect. I've tried with two local K3s and different COM ports to no avail.
