Not sure whose motherboard or onboard sound you are talking about
but I use the Yamaha DS-XG which is onboard on the Dell XPS T__
series (and perhaps some other models) and it works fine. I also
use it for PSK31 with Digipan and Zakanaka. Basically all you need
is something that is SoundBlaster SB-16 compatible and most all of
them are.
