Frank, The CT-17 contains a chip that handles the RS-232 level conversion. I had a CT-17 that too was hit by lightning. I bought a replacement chip and replaced it myself. I don't recall the part nr. of the chip, but it is marked on the chip. Put that part nr. into www.google.com and you can find all kinds of info about it, including where to purchase it.
