John, let's talk about antennas first. What kind of antenna are you using and
how high is it? Man-made noise is usually vertically polarized, which means a
vertical antenna will pick up more of it than a beam or a dipole. Also, the
lower you go in frequency, the more atmospheric noise you get. Man-made noise
responds better to noise blankers than atmospheric noise. Sometimes, DSP can
help.
Since you're talking about 30m, you're working CW or a digital mode. Use the
narrowest filter you have. Same signal, less width for noise, better
signal/noise ratio.
