Robert,
I noticed the same thing.  Perhaps the crystal ladder filter is better
than a lattice filter, but I never noticed any difference.  Seeing as how
the Collins name is "gold" in Japan (at least it was when I lived there
from 1992 thru 1995) I suspect this is just marketing gimick more than
anything else.  Another popular radio manufacturer, AOR company, makes SWL
receivers and recently introduced a model including "Collins" filters.  As
an owner of a couple S-lines, I can vouch the filters are good but I'd not
spend what Yaesu wants for one again.
