- As usual, it all depends. Some motors use a centrifugal switch to switch the capacitor out when it has got to speed, so the cap is just there for starting. Usually, these caps are in the 20 - 100 mFd

- All my 4-400s have metal anodes (Eimac, Penta and a Siemens). The Siemens one surprises me - I'd have expected graphite.... I use a single 4-400 in gg on 10m. I found that it needs about 3.7 - 3.8kV

- I guess it depends on how you define 'common'. My 4-250 amp has a custom made switch, suggesting the manufacturer had problems, too. (It's the PA deck from a military tx) I've seen suitable switches
