Thanks to Conrad G0RUZ, George K8BRW, Peter OZ1PIF and Joe K4IK for various reduced size versions of the articles. I'll upload one or more options later today. No more versions needed now, thanks! 73

Two smaller versions now uploaded to www.eltac.co.uk/amp_article/amp.htm - both pdfs. From the original QST CDROMs, about 550kb, and also a conversion of my .bmp files, about 5.5Mb (this has slightly

You'll almost certainly kill any transistor that bias point connects to. As an aside, I've alwys thought the 723 bias circuit used in the Motorola apps to be needlessly complex, and an invitation for

Don't know of any kits, but (very) many years ago I built a processor from a design (I think) in Ham Radio. Rather than RF, it split the audio into four bands, clipped each one then filtered out the

I experimented half heartedly with the same idea but it didn't progress. While I didn't succeed, someone with more resolve will probably do better. A decent 2m tank circuit needs much better screenin

Just for the record, can I mention that the split band audio clipper I referred to isn't a simple compressor/clipper that generates lots of harmonic distortion and splatter. By splitting the audio in

I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you're getting at here. An infinite spike of what? Am I wrong in thinking that, in a SSB tx, an infinite spike in amplitude out needs an infinite spike of ampli

There's always something for me to learn from Pappenfus, Breune & Schoenike. The infinite spike requires infinite bandwidth - in practice the highest harmonic is likely to be 9th (2700 from 300 x 9)

I found my copy of the Ham Radio article, which uses four bands. The heart of it is just two quad opamps. I'd imagined that the pro units used more bands, but DSP can be clever stuff.... 'Look ahead'

The SL1626 is 'alc' before the clipper - you can leave it out and adjust the input setting manually. Depending on the mic you might need to add a straight gain stage. The auto gain adjust is useful i

I can't help with the circuit details, but MRF455 is rated for 60W output, so 250W pep (output) is not realistic. My guess is that the 2-30MHz is also a lie - the amp was probably designed for 27MHz
