- Not a good idea in general! Fewer volts is fine, but putting 220 on a 110 primary to double the output volts is asking for trouble... in the form of high temperatures, high primary currents, and blow

- I agree. OK. I've had a "bang" event in my HB '1600b amp, one time. Afterwards, the tube was fine. The only damaged component was the shunt resistor for the screen grid current meter, which exploded.
