The AL-80A and SB-1000 are about the same. Willy K3VW _______________________________________________ Amps mailing list Amps@contesting.com http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listinfo/amps
The power supply of a Dentron GLA-1000A will not support a pair of 4CX250 type tubes. You will have to voltage double it and then it will only support about 500 ma of plate current. One tube, maybe,

I say the AL-1500 for several reasons. The 1500 has a grid trip protection circuit, the 1200 does not. The 1200 has a neutralizing circuit to keep it from oscilatting on 10 meters, the 1500 is stable
Some of the frying sounds like a filter cap., Pull the tube out, see if the voltage comes up normally. May have a grid-to-filament short in tube. Hard to diagnose without being there. Relace suspect
Have a filament choke for a 3CX3000F7, 51 amps, with mounting brackets, $50.00 Also have Peter Dahl filament transformer for it, $125 or $150 for both. _______________________________________________
Amp in refers to from exciter to amp. Amp out, refers to antenna tuner or antenna switch. Willy K3VW _______________________________________________ Amps mailing list Amps@contesting.com http://lists
Did he run it grounded grid? What is filament voltage/ current of a GU-84B ? Did he have to build a socket or can you buy them. What is plate disapation of the 84B ? I think 2500 watts. Willy _______

To: YV5LIX- Jose The Ameritron AL-1500 is a very good amplifier for it's price range. The tube is good and has had a bad rap from power hungry egotist's who tried to drain every last watt they could
On the GINPOLE ( Jenpole) Rohn named it a " erection fixture ".i.e., Rohn EF-25/45, etc. _______________________________________________ Amps mailing list Amps@contesting.com http://lists.contesting.
Check the grid resister that goes to B-. It has changed value from the arc over in the bad tube. If that bis OK, check the grid meter shunt. Willy K3VW _______________________________________________
To Hecter, XE2K, look at the padding capacitors on the output capacitor, on the right. Replace them with Centralab 850A's. I believe they are equal to 600 pf. I would use two- 300 pf @ 5 KV. Willy K3
I would try retaping the B & W inductor. It does not match your plate load impedance. Either retap it or check to see how you can re-configure it. _______________________________________________ Amps
If your grid current meter is going backwards, check out the tubes, one or both may have a grid-to-filament or cathode short. _______________________________________________ Amps mailing list Amps@co
Your 8877 tube has an intermittent , grid-to-filament/cathode short. It can be other things, but 95% of the time, that's it !! You can temporarly "fix" the tube but that's for another day. Willy K3VW
I have a used but good 8877 tube, socket & chimney. See me at my e mail address, which is good on QRZ. Willy K3VW _______________________________________________ Amps mailing list Amps@contesting.com
Bob, Ki6iv, check the AL-80B's plate choke and by-pass caps. If everything else looks OK, put another know good 3_500Z in it and see if the power goes up. As for the high input SWR, check all bands.
To Scott, N9AA on his question about his Amp Supply LK-500ZC. Keep what you have Scott. You have the best bang for the buck now. The AL-1200 has a tendency to oscillate at ten meters. That is why the
