When I had a 2KD5 many years ago, even its filament voltage was too high with the normal 240V operating primary tap. What were they thinking? (It was probably just about right for operating in VK wit

You can acoustically isolate the case using cork or rubber washers/gaskets between the chassis and the cover. It might help. But most of my Henry amps just plain had very loud blowers, and 220V ones

Yep, Phil. I like the multi-tap transformers used by Ameritron. Allows great flexibility, although the optimum balance of filament voltage (critical) and high voltage (not critical, but the more, the

Golly, how much bias voltage do you need? When using zener devices for such an application, I always use 50W stud-mount devices rated for several amperes of zener current. Never had one fail, yet. Fo

Yes, actually, it does! Also correct! Another point to ponder is that Zener devices have a TCZV which makes them drift quite a lot. That applies to "zeners" having a Vz of <5.6V. Devices having a Vz

[Steve Katz] Hi Rich. Case temp of a DO-5 stud, which I usually use, is about the same as the temperature of whatever it's mounted to...for an axial leaded package, I'd think it would be higher! -WB

I haven't gone through my backlog of e-mails entirely yet, but people seem to be calling small, axial-leaded diode products "DO-5" for some reason. They're not. DO-5 is a 1/4" stud-mount diode outlin

I should add to my previous comment re DO-5 and outline drawings... A 5W "air cooled" diode usually isn't really air cooled. It's cooled by its leads, in most cases; thus, the Rthj-a is not the formu
