Hi Steve, As someone who is fighting this tube right now in an amp design, I would say that if this is your first HF PA design, it's not going to be easy. I didn't believe others about this at first

One very important fact in the stability of the 4-1000A amp in "grounded grid" is to use the plastic Eimac socket and run the 3 grid connections through the side slits in the socket to chassis ground

This all depends on wether or not you are using parasitic supressors and fuse resistors in the grid leads. Also, it is sometimes helpful to actually ADD a little inductance in the screen so as to mo

So, John, (and all) what is the story on the aluminum socket for those of us in the dark and in the possession of the Alum type socket. Why am I now in deep Kim-chee (sp?) Tks 73 de Steve, NJ4F ** P

I've "been there" with the aluminium sockets and cured the instability (in my case a VHF ocillation) with a VHF series tuned circuit from one of the cathode/filament pins to chassis (or from a cathod

There is something about the inductance of that socket that is very bad. I don't know for sure since I have never used it (my PA came with the plastic one). But from all I have heard, GET RID OF IT!

IMHO, some of those posting were facetious. The 4-1000A is not spec'd for anywhere near 12KV! And at 12KV, I would line my RF cabinet with lead as x-rays are prevelant at voltages about 10KV. So to
