I have an MLA-2500 with soft tubes. Seeking information on modification using a pair of 4cx800 tubes in grounded grid.thus eliminating a seperate bias supply and screen supply. Mel Gossard (K3ML) --

A modification of the MLA2500 to other tubes is a good idea, but it's my opinion that the modification you suggest is not a good one for two reasons: First, the power supply of the MLA2500 isn't adeq
You will need a high pressure centrifugal blower. The tubes need to be relocated near the Tune-C. A small 6v transformer is needed to increase the heater potential. good luck, Mel - Rich..., 805.386
For SSB the supply appears to be adequate. - Rich..., 805.386.3734, www.vcnet.com/measures. end -- FAQ on WWW: http://www.contesting.com/FAQ/amps Submissions: amps@contesting.com Administrative requ
You really only need one tube, as it will put out as much as the pair of 8875's. To take advantage of the potential of a pair will be nullified by a power supply melt-down. It is easy to get screen
A pair of 8875s is rated at 700mA keydown. A 3cx800A7 is rated at 600mA keydown. Highly unlikly for SSB. The avg. current for a pair of 3cx800A7s in SSB is c. 500mA. An 8281 tetrode can deliver 23db

You have to watch some of the "supercathode" configurations. Some destabilize the PA, especially near the operating frequency on the higher bands. The capacitor divider scheme only works properly wh
There will be plenty of room up front when the old tune C is removed to install more robust load padders. Woe be unto the manufacturer that uses blowers that make noise! This is a no-no in the think
