- To find out what's what you need a high pot. Anode to grid leakage at 8kV should be under 10uA. If you see a blue glow, a bad metal/glass seal is indicated. // Grid to fil. leakage should be under 3

- Sounds like there's gas in the tube and it's arcing. As Rich advises, you can use a hi-pot tester to confirm this. You might be able to see the arcs momentarity before the fuses blow, but this is not
