Hi all, Have some NIB Eimac 3cx800a7's (YC-238) as spares for my Alpha amps. Question is, should they be put in some kind of fixture and cooked with air/filament v applied periodically to keep the bo

Im not aware of any outgassing problems from those tubes but a yearly swap wont hurt anything either. Carl KM1H Hi all, Have some NIB Eimac 3cx800a7's (YC-238) as spares for my Alpha amps. Question i

The 3CX800A7s shouldn't leak sitting on the shelf. Keep them stored away from extreme temperatures (freezing and hot) and Rip Van Winkle tubes should be ready to use after a 30-60 minute wait after t

My experience with ion pumps is pretty limited, going back almost 50 years. The Siemens YH1045 TWT (10kW out, about 6GHz) had an electrode which was kept at about 2kV DC and attracted gas molecules.

I understand the concept (although not the black magic) of parasitic surpressors and chokes; but you raise the issue of damping resistances. What do you mean by that? Where in a triode circuit would

The resistor is the other half of the suppressor. The 3CX800 is a very stable tube and is gentle on a basic 2W carbon resistor. Carl KM1H I understand the concept (although not the black magic) of pa

Damping resistances is a more general term for the more specific types like parasitic suppressors (which are slightly tuned to damp only higher frequency - VHF - spurious energy). Over the big pond t
