The schematic is useful. At one time, the manual stated that it was okay to load and tune a 3-500Z at >500mA. However, the various manufacturers of 3-500Zs rate it at 400mA max. Although it will draw

In the 80-b manual it states the amp should be peaked, then advance the load control to (slightly) drop the peak for best linearity. Who needs the manual? E-mail me separate and I will send you a cop

I burned up the top of the plate choke on my al80a trying to load up on 17m.Still loads up on the other bands. I am wondering if I could replace it with the plate choke from the al80b which is availa

The AL80B choke is designed to move the series resonance away from 17m. It should work and avoid this problem. It wouldn't hurt to check it in place with a grid dip meter, if you have one available.

Unwind about 4 turns and youve moved the resonance. Carl KM1H _______________________________________________ Amps mailing list Amps@contesting.com http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listinfo/amps

To make sure that you don't have any plate choke resonances close to any of the ham bands you should sweep it with a grid dip oscillator and not just remove a few turns. Bob W6TR -- Original Message
