Hi members; Is there a real power output difference between a old Kenwood TL922 amplifier and a Alpha 87A automatic tune amplifer. I now the TL922 use 3-500Z graphite tubes as finals, and the Alpha 87

The 87A uses 3CX800A7 triodes. It's my opinion that the Tl-922 suffers from an inferior power supply design. The 87A is vulnerable to PIN Diode burn out and the 3CX800A triodes can't stand any mistun

The Alpha will produce 1500 watts, even RTTY. The TL922 will put out about 1200 CW or SSB, but the transformer is a bit small for RTTY, and will overheat if you don't reduce the power. The TL922 will

Related to this, is there a significant output difference between a TL922 and a Heathkit SB-220/221? Will these two-tube 3-500Z amplifiers product the same output at the same exciter power? 73, Cathy

I'd say that depends on how often and how badly you mistune them. I have NOT had that problem with the 3CX800A7s in my three Ten Tec 425s, and they get a LOT of action in contests. And the only prote
