- Check your voltage "TO" the pass transistors. If it's high the transistors will run hot. IIRC the VS and RS use the sane control circuit, but it's been quite a while since I had one apart. Please NOT

- And if your looking for 2N5686 transistors, dont buy them on EBay!!! Buy them from a reputable distributor like Mouser, Digi-Key, Allied or Newark. MOST if not all "NOS" transistors on EBay from Chin

- I fully agree. I've read many horror stories about hams who installed cheap eBay Asian RF power transistors in their rigs, severely damaging it upon power-up. 2N5686s are 12 bucks at Newark. 2N3771s
