I have always used near pure isopropyl alcohol, which I obtained from an electronics supply house, and Kleenex. You need to be real careful wiping to avoid removing the lettering but the pure alcohol

Don't get glass cleaner or even water NEAR the tube if you have any desire of saving the nomenclature that is printed on the envelope. Just use a dry cloth and carefully wipe the envelope. That works
