Scott -- The recommended tune-up procedure in the Owner's Manual talks about using more current than the tube mfg's max rating of 400mA. I would tune a single 3-500Z at 400mA - which requires c. 70w

It's not so much the idle HV but what the voltage drop is between ZSAC (key down but no signal from exciter) and full output - if it drops 500V or more you should connect it to 220VAC. A 500V drop in

Need to clarify this - tune for max output at 20W, then tune for max output at 60W. If you try to tune the amp with 60W and the load and plate controls (and/or band switch) are not in the right place

Dear Scott, You might wish to open the HV circuit and let the tubes cook with just filament voltage applied for about a day. This might serve to prolong the tube life and to prepare them for the shoc
