- Rich asks: "Can an unloaded tank reach potentials higher than the breakdown voltage of its Tune C?" Yes. We are not dealing with dc, but waves. These waves do not necessarily where you expect them or

- Yes, but not for that reason in HF amplifiers. You'll find, if you carefully investigate component breakdown, voltage flashover point depends heavily on the shape of the conductors at different pote

- When grounded, a 3-500Z's grid resonates c. 88MHz. At resonance and above resonance, the grid is semi-transparent. As frequency decreases below resonance, the grid acts as a better and better shield

- So when one of these waves shows up. the breakdown potential of the air-variable cap doesn't even matter? ... even though they both connect to the same point - the outgoing end of the DC blocker cap.

- This posting seems to have missed the amps list. Cheers, Dick PA3DUV Gary, you make the same mistake Rich does ... the voltage is not necessarily due to parasitic oscillation at VHF frequencies. Almo
