It is necessary to use the ALC on the amp. I don't understand completely the purpose of the ALC. I have use amps for years but never connected the ALC. Some old timers say they don't use it either. I

Hi Dan, The basic purpose for ALC, Automatic Level Control, is to make sure you don't overdrive the amp. The expert on the reflector can probably give you some more insight. There is a great article
