I am going to build an amp using a single GS-35B, 3800 volts, 600mA. I am thinking of using the Ameritron roller inductor sold by MFJ. It is on page 86 of their current catalog. It is edge wound, sil

Bob, Been there, done it, wish I had not. A roller ends up giving you a lot of odd resonance points which can make you just crazy especially on the high bands. The Q of the roller is generally poor c

Jeff, Don't use a roller inductor. There are no real benefits. The matching boxes I have built with roller inductors are noisey, sound dead until power is applied,--they are a PITA. IMHO. 73 Hardy N7

Bob, This is a little different response. I built an almost exact copy of the DX-811A amp from the Sep 82 CQ magazine. It uses a roller inductor that only goes to 80M, but it works beautifully--and i

I have been happy with the performance of the roller inductor in my ATR-30. While I can see that contacts may hold up better long-term in a switched inductor, the performance of the rollers seems to

The Henry / Tempo 2001 linear amplifier uses a roller inductor as the plate tuning instead of the "normal" variable capacitor tuning.  It has fixed capacitors that are band switched instead of switch

I use an MFJ 989C tuner with a roller inductor and have never had a problem with it. I run about 6-700 watts with an 811H amp. I have an 962C 'kw tuner' and have blown the bandswitch out twice. For m
