Check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoVCGFPvOuk <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoVCGFPvOuk&hd=1> &hd=1 for a neat video showcasing the new 3-500Z plate caps by Mike Freeman NT8O and his brother
Talk about pricey! How do those perform when using transverse cooling? Due to the large surface area Id think that the graphite anodes would benefit the most. Carl KM1H ______________________________
The "original" is NOT an Eimac plate cap. It's a shortened plate cap made by Henry. 73 Jim W7RY _______________________________________________ Amps mailing list Amps@contesting.com http://lists.cont
Cool, ....So to speak... They resemble closely the design of the factory plate heat dissapators on the Drake L-4B Also, I wonder if there is any heat transfer advantage to be gained by smearing a thi
Somewhere in my youth, I recall reading that plate caps like that make very little difference, because the ability of that thin plate electrode to transfer heat from the plate itself is the limiting
I believe that the major portion of the heat dissipated by the plate is radiated rather than conducted to the plate cap. The job of the cap is primarily to keep the seal area cool. -- Vic, K2VCO Fres
I have to agree with Carl as to the price. $45.00 ea or 2 for $85.00! If you have a situation that you are damaging the seal due to poor cooling, they could be worth the price. Otherwise the usual $5

Gentlemen, I cannot get to my stock of Eimac 3-500 glass chimneys at present, but I recall, the Eimac drawing of the 3-500 glass chimney shows that the top edge of the chimney is formed into a pronou
This is the HR-6 Eimac cap on the left. I cant imagine the need for excessive aluminum on the tube in any 3-500Z commercial ham amp. Maybe for 11M. http://www.mwpersons.com/images/Eimac_HR-6&8.jpg Ca
The other heat dissipating connector in the video is not by Eimac. Eimac recommends the type HR-6 together with their SK-406 chimney. 73 Peter Check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoVCGFPvOuk <ht
In that case find the transistor heat sinks that look like these, drill them out to fit the plate cap and ...you're in business. If I'm not mistaken you can purchase this material (extruded Aluminum
IIRC the ones that were in my 2K4 were notably more. It may be, but it's in an area of null horizontal flow and the directed air is coming in from all sides where it is deflected upwards. Also the he

The Eimac SK-406 chimney is indeed curved inward at the top; the aftermarket version used on many commercial amps is straight sided. This probably leads to confusion among those who arent familiar w
You'll also notice the crayon is going DIRECTLY onto the anode "pin" the tube on the right. And on the TOP of the "new fangled" plate cap on the right. Not a very fair test. I would like to see the t
My Drake L-4B has straight sided Chimneys. I have also used very similar Coleman lantern envelopes on home brew 3-500Z amps. The thru glass electrode looks quite thick and substantial, same for the 3
A couple of things I noted from the video. As Jim says the one does not appear to be a genuine HR-6. Another is the tube seal temp is not being measured nor is the measurement actually representative

I don't want to be branded as a cynic (OK, OK, as any MORE of a cynic...), but let's just say that it's the job of the marketing department to encourage people to think that they need a product that
The tantalum plate Eimacs do a large amount of heat dissipation thru the glass while the Chinese and Amperex graphite anodes heat up the anode pin. This may be a reason that Eimac first introduced a
