The theory behind pulsing when tuning is to tune the radio (remember plate and tune controls) without over dissipating the finals (sweep tubes and even the almighty 6146 included). Works just as well

I really don't understand why anyone feels the need to use a pulser for tuneup. If your amp can't do full power for the few seconds needed for a tuneup, you're pushing it too hard anyway, IMO. 73, Bi

Your amp is always out of tune when operating SSB. It is only at maximum efficiency at full power tune up. 73 Gary k4FMX _______________________________________________ Amps mailing list Amps@contest

I agree with Bill, W6WRT. Especially with triodes, if the HV sags a bit, so what? The required plate load impedance won't change that much when the volts go up because the current goes up as well. Pe

REPLY: Even with an amp with calibrated dials, one should do the initial tune up at about 1/4 to 1/2 power first. When you have that in resonance, increase the power and retune accordingly (usually j
