So how did we get reasonable efficiency in plate modulated 160m PA stages, where we couldn't use a value as big as .01 uf to bypass the end of plate feed RF choke without serious effects on the modul

I need a little help in understanding the entire picture correctly. I see that having additional bypass C at the plate choke base, would help prevent the power supply from becoming part of the tuned

So how did we get reasonable efficiency in plate modulated 160m PA stages, It was, indeed, Peter. Even the National R-175 chokes found on Johnson and many other amps, including many H.B. projects all

** The rub is that power supply components don't do well with RF. The antenna is probably a better place to put RF. ** Current is not lost in a C or an L because only the voltage/current phase relat

I had a problem with efficiency on 160M on a newly constructed amp. (yc 156) I want to thank all those who responded both on the reflector and privately. Symptoms were: Tank appears resonant on 160M

All 160 meter amps need this, Lynn. It is just not as obvious at low power. You need 8000-10000 pf at the base of the plate choke for 160, especially if you are using a string of electrolytic capaci

? Amen, Phil. Ameritron's 1000pF of +HV bypass C is clearly not good engineering practice below 10MHz.. Rich, AG6K, 805-386-3734, www.vcnet.com/measures
