- Hi I am ready to rebuild the supply in my SB-200. Question on the HV diodes. I have 1N5408 to replace the old ones. Is 4 per leg enough PIV rating of 4000 volts for this supply of should I go to 5 di

- 4000v/leg is plenty of safety factor since the actual piv is c. 3000v/leg. - R. L. Measures, a.k.a. Rich..., 805.386.3734,AG6K, www.vcnet.com/measures. end

- Why all the excitement? To save a buck per leg? Go for 5, or maybe 6. A '1 kv' diode should only ever see, what, 400v? And the 1N5408 is the next level up. Why push it? Bill K2AME ~~~~~

- 1n5408s typically measure >1100piv. The cost should be under 19¢ each. - R. L. Measures, a.k.a. Rich..., 805.386.3734,AG6K, www.vcnet.com/measures. end
