The filaments are ramped UP as well as down. The time is a few minutes for tubes of that size. The control ladder is kind of huge; before you can turn on the filaments you have to confirm that airflo

Along with the cam or flapper on the variac, I have a dpdt "wired around" itself, on the main primary relay, with an RB (Red Button-- momentary) so when you go for coffee and the power company does o

All the ones I have experience with work that way. I think I may still have one that is 750VA or maybe 1KVA. Wave form is really ratty which is how they control the RMS voltage. We used them on the i

Hi, Maybe of interest, I just uploaded some info on the circuit I use for ramping up the filament voltage under SCR/Triac control (http://www.pc5m.net/projects/filament-inrush-protection) Works very

I use a 1KVA SOLA on the 2 PC's in the office when Im on generator power, all seems to run fine and it handles the sudden dips when inductive loads kick in. Yeah, the genny is undersized; I cant get

My understanding was the constant voltage transformers basically saturated the core, which limits the output voltage. If so, then they would indeed produce a rather distorted waveform, as the core wo

Constant voltage transformers (if we are talking about he same thing) come in a wide variety of sizes. The maintain the "RMS" voltage at a constant value +/- a small % and do so usually by distorting

They make some really nice "whole house" units that will run off either Natural or LP gas. Much more economical than gas powered ones and they come in 15 or 20 KW with an automated transfer switch. T
