Many years ago (late 60's) I converted an amplifier which was a low band VHF to 20 and 15 meters. It had a pair of push pull 4CX250B or perhaps 4X150A tubes (no tube came with it). I parallel connect

Motorola may have built such an amplifier for the military. However, for the commercial FM two-way market the Motorola lowband and highband amplifiers used 8650A tubes which are the conduction cooled

Perhaps it was a GE. I can't remember if it has two big dials or just one. One control went to the swinging link coupling. But it did have a pair of forced air cooled bypassed EF Johnson sockets for

Moto did make some very robust VHF tube amps. Most that I have seen come through the shop over the years have been with a Moto marked conduction cooled tubes that strap to a very large heat sink in t

I am sure it was a low band amplifier because I used the same silver plated coil and paralleled the tubes and plate capacitors to make a pi network. I mounted a broadcast variable capacitor on a brac

Amplifier found, It is an AM-495/GR. 25-50 MHz which is why it was easily converted to 14-21 MHz. Does anyone have one available for a reasonable price. I don't need the power supply. And it does not

Those amplifiers used 2 of the 8560A which is basically a conduction cooled 4CX250B. The lowband versions were rated at 330 watts output and the highband versions were rated usually at 250 watts outp

I have seen these come through. I had always assumed that the tubes were basically 8873 but the size was like the 250. I think there may be a VHF that had been used for Mobile Phone service at a site

Nah, they're tetrodes, not triodes. Those amps are all set up for Class C and run fairly low anode voltage (usually); the tank circuit can handle a lot more power, they were built to transmit continu

The tubes are definitely not triodes! The 8560A is basically a 4CX250B that is conduction cooled rather than forced air. Glen, K9STH Website: http://k9sth.com ________________________________________
