I have an old TV power transformer that I am thinking about using as a plate transformer for a medium-power amplifier (2 x 813). It weighs between 15 and 20 pounds and the stack is 3.25" x 4.5" x 4".

I used TV power transformers in the past when I was much younger. I usually got around 1200volts DC at 300 or so ma. MAX with a voltage doubler. These were black and white TV transformers, perhaps yo

You might be pushing the insulation rating by more than a hair in either configuration, especially at the unused CT depending on how it is run internally. A hi-pot will tell you all the specifics. Th

Vic, Yes - but the secondary isn't! Actually it's quite a bit over the edge! You are forgetting that doubling the current QUADRUPLES the power loss in the windings! That's OK only if you reduce the d

Yes, you're right about doubling the current. I was definitely exaggerating! Trying to talk myself into it. You are right about shipping something that heavy by air! It would probably cost less to bu

With this level of Ep I would consider 811As. I believe 813s work much better closer towards 3kvdc Ep. My Heathkit Warrior HA-10 project I am working on runs about 1600vdc on the plate and I am seein
