I need several replacement caps for my Ten-Tec Titan 725, Mallory CGS401T450R5L (long/slim 400mf 450vdc/85c). Newark wants $29 each. Is there a better deal available? Thanks, Pete AD4L ______________

Ameritron has a good price on their caps which are 270uF which with 8 is sufficient for good filtering. The new ones are half the height but still the computer grade type...about $13 iffn I remember.

Another important point. It's rare for all of the caps in the series string to fail. Only one gone bad will cause lots of hum. I use my trusty Simpson 260 on the middle Ohms range to read charge and

I think that's about what I paid about five years ago, and I bought at least a dozen. Don't recall if it was Newark or Allied, but I shopped them for price. 73, Jim K9YC _____________________________

Thanks to KM1H and K0UYA for the advice. The form factor of the stock caps for the Titan is the killer: very long and very narrow compared to the "usual" for this capacity and voltage. I'm confident

I don't know if the physical configuration of these will work for you, but here's a good data point on filter caps: http://www.ebay.com/itm/450V-680uf-Electrolytic-Capacitor-Radial-35x60mm-x-1pc-/230

Alpha, Ameritron, Amp Supply, and others all use 220-270uF caps. There is no reason for 400 unless the goal is to put more stress on the step start. Excessive C also requires a lot more consideration

I have six Titan 425's here and most Power Supplies have been upgraded with the WD7S PS Board. These work great and only takes a small bit of moving some parts around in the PS to make these work. ht

That test is about 1% better than nothing. There are plenty of decent cap testers on the vintage gear market that will test at rated voltage instead of a battery. I use a CDE TC-6A but many others a
