- when you are talking about a rheostat are you describing the small wirewound type variable resistor..similar looking to a mini-mini variac...or are you talking about a high wattage variable resistor.

- I didn't write that--Rich did. But either one will work--a rotary style high-wattage potentiometer--or a high-wattage power resistor with an adjustable tap. Depends on whether you just want to set it
