I read some info about the rf choke on the output of the amps to work in case the blocking cap fails. I see different values listed plus I read in these archives that one can be made from #24 wire???

A Z-50 is 7 uh. This would be suitable for a VHF amplifier, as it would have a reactance of about 80 ohms at 1.8 MHz. Many amplifiers have pie-wound 1 or 2 mh chokes in this position; however, since

I've heard many people who stated that it is only "to make smoke":) so you could realize what happened. Either the plate choke or the line fuse that fails open is better than nothing, so what wire di

One function is to stop the pi tank components floating up towards the HV supply if there is no dc connection to ground. If you put two capacitors in series, then applying DC will lead to the junctio

That happened to a friend's 813 linear amplifier!. There was a barely notable "Tic...Tic..." every a few seconds. Because we had no choke at hand, it was temporarily solved with a 68 K 2W resistor in

Thank you Peter and Guillermo. I think you just solved a long standing quirk that I have had with one of my NCL amps. When the plate switch is turned off and the bleeders are doing there job as indic

If the load C is your typical 1500v air variable, and the DC blocker cap fails, the load C will act like a protective spark gap, and clamp the HV to c. +20v until the mains circuit breaker opens. How
