Anyone who thinks a crimp is better than soldering is just fooling himself. Maybe they are equal the day of proper installation, but what about 7 years later at the top of the tower in lots of vibrat

Ive had commercial installations on my 180' tower for 20 years and there has never been a connector problem with the RG-213 or LMR-400 jumpers. For my own use I do solder the center since Im running

I'm with Carl on this one. Actually, the crimp N-connectors I use have center pins designed to be crimped *and* soldered -- there's a little hole in the side for soldering. I've found that there's so

It's not tricky if you have three things: 1) The right soldering iron. I have a Weller W100P that I use for this. It's also handy for copper tubing and strap in tank circuits, etc. It has a large the

First of all I would like to correct a small misconception about the little side hole in the center pin of all connectors: it is there to provide a visual verification of the placement of the central

It's good for both !!! Visualy confirm the placement, and then it makes for a great way to get solder into the joint. I've been doing "N" s like this on commercial TV and FM coaxes running 1KW+ for o

Right, and I'm not sure there's a better alternative to using the hole. The only other way to solder the center pin is to leave a small space between the opening of the pin and the dielectric, heat

I have found an easier way of soldering those pins.  What I do is to place the pin in a hole drilled in a piece of wood that just holds the pin upright.  Next, I tin the center conductor of the coax.

If I've followed correctly so far: We're talking N connector center pins. I trim every thing to length and then solder and/or crimp the pin to the the center conductor. Then insert the cable until th

Why not just put the soldering iron in contact with the pin's back shell. Even if you smear a little solder on it, it doesn't come into play so far as the contact goes. Alex 4Z5KS I have found an eas

Relays and PIN's regularly smoke. The solder is there only to insure a continuing low resistance contact and not to increase power handling. Carl KM1H _______________________________________________
